I would have given the show a higher rating because in and of itself it's an okay show. However they should not have called the series Nancy Drew. I feel like they blatantly just did that to get views the only thing that is even similar to any of the Nancy Drew books is the name only. It's like they made their own show and just use the names from a popular book to get publicity. Other than the names not a single thing lines up with the original series. And again as a series it's not terrible but going into it with the expectation that it in anyway correlates with Nancy Drew really just led to a huge disappointment since it did not have a single expectation met. Spoiler alert below before you keep reading if you don't want to have a spoiler stop here. I'm just so frustrated I had to elaborate on my review just to give some examples of what I mean. I get the show trying to modernize the books I'm all for that I love twists on old stories. However at least keep something the same other than the names I find it stereotypical that Nancy's boyfriend is black and of course he's the ex-con in the series like seriously? How original. Also when you have over a hundred Nancy Drew books describing Bess and George in every single one of them at the beginning of the book you really get an idea of what they're supposed to look like. This show did not stick to any of that. George has long black hair wears makeup and is not a tomboy at all. Bess is not plump and blond and nor have they been best friends since childhood like in the books. Nancy and her dad have no relationship to speak of and in the books they were super close being is that he was the only parent she had growing up her entire life. Another difference that this movie has instead of having Nancy's mother die at 3 like in the books instead she dies from pancreatic cancer when Nancy is a teenager? Where is Hannah Gruen? Not to be seen in this series that's for sure even though she was a primary character in the books the list goes on and on and it's really sad because I would have liked the series by itself but because all of my expectations were so unmet it really ruined it for me
