Continuing from where they left off on Momentary Lapse of Reason, Gilmour, Mason and Wright put forth an amazing musical effort. The lyrics improve on this one, and, as always, Gilmour's guitar sings like no other. This, along with "Momentary", are two albums I can play over and over and never get tired of them. "High Hopes", which closes the album, is one of the band's best songs in their entire library.

I am sure many will disagree with me, but this and The Division Bell are my favorite Floyd albums. Gilmour is a FAR better musician than Waters, and he really proves it here. This effort may not have Waters' lyrical genius, but that is more than made up by Gilmour's incredible guitar work. The eight minute instrumental "Terminal Frost", is a journey in music beauty. Yes, I am biased because I am a "Gilmour person" and not a big fan of Waters and his leftist political nonsense, but I really believe that this album is nothing short of perfection.

This album was the beginning of Waters' egotistical attitude. He refused to allow Wright to write any of the music, and was becoming quite tyrannical, which is what eventually led to him leaving the band several years later. Musically, it is a decent effort; Gilmour shines as always, but has limited vocals. Waters does the majority of the singing unfortunately, but his style actually works here, even though his ability is far outshined by Gilmour. The lyrics, political as they are, are still amusing. Overall not my favorite Floyd album, but not a bad one either.
