Okay, now brace yourselves. This opinion might be shocking to you all, but I’m going to be the most critical I can with this. I loved Violet Evergarden, it was a 9.8/10 anime for me, but the one that that ruined it was the relationship with the Major. If you haven’t seen the movie I wouldn’t recommend reading this following paragraph. Just know that I will be stating my opinion on why I hate the movie and wish that I could erase it from my memories. The major issue I had with it, was with the Major (bad pun intended). They ruined the whole relationship between the major and Violet in the anime series. The major was supposed to be a staple for Violet, her reason to work on day after day, just so she can comprehend the meaning of “I love you!” It gets to the point where at the end of the whole series she says something along the lines of, “I was able to finally understand what he meant by the words ‘I love you!’” The movie contradicts the whole ending of the series when Violet states that she “kind of” understand what that meant. And I don’t care how many people sobbed at the end of the movie, I loved it too, but throughout the movie, all that passed through my head was my sheer hatred for the major. Honestly I don’t think that the movie was needed. I loved everything about the movie except for the fact that it made me picture the anime as a whole differently all because of small and (supposed to be) important story decision. Please forgive me as I’m writing this after the heat of the movie. And for the fact that I am writing this while extremely tired, so I may not be able to convey my emotions to this show the right way. Although, at the end of the day, weather or not I could properly explain this, I just want people to know that I don’t think the movie(s) were need at all. Thank you, - Critic
