Well acted, beautifully done. Its strength is mainly based on demonstrating how women lacked rights concerning their own possessions, talents and earnings. It might also have explained in part why some women might turn to another woman sexually-speaking in a bid ti be understood and escape the very real (in this case in particular) sentiment of being 'used' by men. The slight disappointment for me is that, having taken a great French author as the subject of the film, there was very little about her actual writings: the film therefore could have been about any woman's lack of liberty during those times.
