We had been looking forward to seeing the film for ages and got preview tickets for what promised to be a show stopping toe tapper. We were so disappointed. The film came across as self pitying musical twaddle. 2 people in our cinema even walked out, we nearly followed and then chose to stay to see if it got better, it didn't and then enjoyed it for what can only be described as cringe worthy glory. In its defence, I'm sure it will work well as a West End show, it was certainly written in that way. It came across as though the script writers had never written a cinematic film ever before. Doffing my cap also to the amazing charity work Elton John has done and to the creative music man himself, but to end the film thinking that everything has been a bed of roses since his drink, drugs and debauchery phase came across as almost laughable cherry on top if any Google Search engine is to be believed. I cannot falthom why most professional critics have been falling over themselves positively on this.
