Syd Austin (Roxie)

I honestly can’t say that this movie would be a good watch for people who don’t like the original cats musical. I can’t even say that people who do like the musical would like this movie for sure. But I’m giving it a 5 star review because I have a huge bias for the musical. It was the first musical I ever saw and it’s what made me love musical theatre. This movie is probably one of the most good and accurate movie adaptations of a musical that I’ve ever seen besides In The Heights. I honestly thought that there was a lot of talent behind it with the dancing and singing and the set designs that they built themselves were very impressive and immersed you in the environment really well. I think it’s a shame that they didn’t think through their designs for what the cats looked like though since I agree they looked really awful. But that’s my only complaint about the movie, I thought the rest of it was a perfect adaptation of the original musical! I would definitely recommend at least giving it a shot if you like Cats the musical. If you don’t know or like the musical though it probably just looks like unsettling visuals with no plot so I’m sorry for your loss I guess. Stream Skimbleshanks on Spotify!
