For me its great. I like it because its different from all the other Treks, and each Trek series is also different from each other. Why should a Trek series be a copy of a previous one? The premise is to go where no one has gone before, and that's what every Trek series needs to be, and has been. Not just on another planet, or another latex made up alien, but in terms of themes and story lines. Discovery is going to where no other Trek series has gone before, and that's great.
