I am a huge fan of the Halloween franchise, and this was hands down the worst film with the possible exception of the Rob Zombie duo. This film had absolutely no redeeming qualities. Literally nothing good can be said of this film. There is absolutely none of the genius of John Carpenter, almost non-existent suspense, and superfluous gore. The flashback-type scenes almost give you whiplash and are difficult to follow, and their attempt to show what is presumably 'not seen before excerpts' from the original film simply miss the target. I think for folks who did not grow up living through the releases of the various films, the younger generation, perhaps their take is different. However, as someone who has seen multiple quality releases, to varying degrees, I can tell you unequivocally that if you have yet to watch this film, just don't. I waited 7 months to watch this thing, partly because the first Blumhouse installment was so so at best, but also because the vast majority of the reviews of this film were spectacularly bad. But oft times I disagree with the reviews. Not this time, the consensus was right on the money, and if anything the rotten tomatoes score on this one is far too high. To give you a frame of reference, Jason X was a better movie than this. Of course, if you just want to see sickening gore, and don't care much about the story line, or any of the films predecessors, then it may work for you. But then again, if that's what you're after, you'd be much better off watching just about anything from the Hostel or Saw series of films.
