This was not good, at all. I love British murder mysteries. But this missed the mark repeatedly. The first episode was really promising and had a great set up. But then episode two was completely incomprehensible and did not progress the story at all. Episodes 2-5 felt like they decided to make her a detective and throw in art and antiques to justify her being a police “consultant”. If felt like the writers were deciding the tone as the series progressed rather than at the onset in preproduction. And the finale was not only predictable but also so very disappointing and not believable. As for characters, very disheartening that the only three actors of color were tasked with playing stereotypes and being forced to check the missing boxes; particularly the gay man who is scared to come out to his best friend, has a gambling addiction and is arrested for theft and the other gay character that is also a thief…I hope if there is another season that they do better with the marginalized voices and that the stories have better narrative pay offs. The actors and the audience deserve better.
