I’m not a big fan of horror and gore, so it was a “leap of faith“ to even watch this. I really like Zack Gilford though, so I gave it a try, and I’m glad I did. It’s more of a suspense/drama. At the beginning with all the Christian motifs, I was wondering if it was some kind of a Hallmark movie (yawn). However, it branches out to explore other perspectives, and the darkness slowly creeps in. I am glad I hung in there, because it is ultimately a beautiful story of Love overcoming Fear. Let me elaborate: (here come the spoilers): an ancient power is unearthed in the Middle Eastern desert. This power confers many benefits on those who partake, and is brought to a community in the western world. Leaders profit from the benefits of this power and seek to expand this power by “selling” it to the community. It seems like a miracle at first, but people become dependent on this power and lose the ability to live in sunlight. A great sacrifice of love wakens people to reality and the sun saves the world. A well told fable for modern times.
