I really can't recommend this novel highly enough. This book (and the entire series) is wicked, dark, funny, romantic, gory, suspenseful, inspirational, and just all around brilliant. Pierce Brown is such a poetic writer. Brown borrows many aspects of the great sci-fi and fantasy novels of the past to tell a unique tale of heroes, villains, and galactic conquest. For those who need a direct comparison, this novel takes all the best parts of Game of Thrones and Star Wars without ever sacrificing originality and (throughout the full series) ALWAYS delivers absolutely mind bending, jaw dropping twists and surprises. READ. THIS. GORY. DAMN. BOOK!
