Quick summary; Beautiful scenery, no depth. A great flight model and a huge but tragically empty galaxy. Elite always had great potential but 5 years later is full of placeholders, released features never made to work properly or abandoned outright and debilitating bugs. Once a feature is added, there apparently is a checkbox ticked somewhere it is rarely revisited or refined. The community surrounding it has been it's saving grace; lack of in game tools causes it to be inscrutable and nearly unplayable without third party tools and online tutorials by players. I enjoy it immensely but realize that Frontier is both unable and unwilling to develop it properly. Frontier continues to cling to outdated game models, a UI that was old fashioned even at release and an unwillingness to communicate intentions, reasoning or plans with the playerbase. That Frontier neither plays elite or tests functionality is always patently obvious. Updates are always nearly game breaking and on those rare occasions with a beta period, feedback and bug reporting are ignored. Worth the money certainly, but merely a skeletal framework for what could have been.
