Proof, yet again, that professional reviewers are no longer to be trusted.

It's sad that we're all so hungry for "grown up" movies these days that poor fare such as this is praised as a gourmet meal. The rave reviews are, frankly, ridiculous.

Christopher Guest explored similar territory with the sublime Waiting for Guffman but this movie can hold its head up in that company. It gets a bit muddled in the middle but makes up for that with a heartwarming last act. The cast are great - perhaps a little too talented for believability - but you'll love them all, including Troy, who proves in the end that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The story is as predictable as hell but who cares? it's not that sort of film. To some of the haters, yes, it's a story about misfits, but not in a preachy or "woke" way. It's nice to see that everyone can find their tribe, isn't it?

Forget the critics. It was great fun.

I gave this movie almost an hour. Then I got the giggles at the po-faced pretentiousness of it all and I was done.

I tend to judge movies on the quality of the wigs, so I wanted to give up five minutes in. That blue wig had a whole other life going on: a life that didn't involve looking like human hair. Anyway, I stuck with it because David Koepp is usually solid and I sometimes like Soderbergh. Turns out I should have trusted my first instincts. Wigs tell all.

Underrated B flick. Much better than you might expect.

Excellent suspense/thriller. As always with good movies, it's not the tale (which is nothing special), it's the way it's told. The acting is top class from everyone, especially the two young leads. The small-town setting and the underlying themes of obedience, family and coming to adulthood give it a satisfying extra heft. 9/10, one of the best flicks I've seen this year. PS: As someone else said, although the story involves a serial killer who tortures and murders women, there's very little of that in the film, thankfully, and it's not egregious.
