Syfy channel quality.
This may be the first time a netflix series has the "bad guy of the week" formula, only it's "situation of the episode". Which wouldn't be an automatic death sentence for me, if this had any redeeming qualities.
I'm almost certain this is a shelved project that even syfy didn't want to air. The overall plot is boring. Big alien thing lands on earth, and they are trying to figure out what it is. On the ground, and by traveling to where it came from. Pretty generic, and tired. The sub plots of each episode should have the writers dying of embarrassment.
For example, man initiates mutiny in order to execute a plan woman said no to. Plans goes sideways, with the explanation being "The FTL drive is just gone". Someone releases woman to take control back. She comes to the bridge, and orders the FTL drive be repaired asap. Literally 15 seconds later it's fixed. As if the technician repairing it wasn't even trying until someone specifically said "whatever it takes".
The characterization of these individuals is almost non existent, and I wish I couldn't say almost. Because every person who has any character is overwhelmingly obnoxious. It does not help that they cuss like fourth graders who think it's "cool" to cuss. Sometimes it's literally every other word. A doubt any astronauts speak so ignorantly.
I almost forgot the "costumes". There's a line in the first episode about how thetr hasn't been uniforms for astronauts in over a decade. I'm convinced there's no costume designer, and the line is to explain away why every one is wearing street clothes. Even the general on earth wears a pants suit, when it would be a military uniform. Unless the military doesn't require uniforms anymore in.....I don't think they ever even say what year it is.
Also, don't ve fooled by the trailer. Half of the stuff it shows is dream sequences they have in "soma" sleep. Yes, soma.
Overall, this is exactly the kind of thing you would expect to see with sackhoff being the star. Low budget, badly written, annoying junk.
