Incident Electron

Spectacular and sublime... Elder are at the absolute top of their game here. This album, more than any of their others, feels like a complete work, a cohesive but expansive bit of prog rock that sounds like no other. There are countless inspired moments throughout, made with precise and deft flourishes, which gives this album incredible replay value and depth on repeated listening. For my money Catastasis is probably the best single track the band has ever made, and it's a complete house as the opener here. The enchanting closer The Purpose is probably my second favorite. It's just a fantastically realised package all in all - a true classic.
