This was one of the best documentaries I have ever watched. It shows that Grant has been forgotten in history and this is largely the fault of a rewriting caused by those sympathetic to the Confederate cause;whereby Lee was lionized and made a hero and Grant was portrayed as a butcher and a drunk. This was a terrible injustice. Grant as a general saved the Union and while he was President reconstruction was of great benefit to the freed slaves, amazing advances in education, voting and political power resulted. Tragically, after Grant left office, the Ku Klux Klan emerged and terrorized the black population. We are still paying the price today. To sum up, Grant is a documentary I highly recommend. Reading other reviews complaining about the number of so many commercials is very true. I DVR'd the series and fast forwarded through them, so for me this was a minimal problem. Again, this series (leaving out the commercials) is a great history lesson for both young and old and everyone in between.
