Honestly, there's so much wrong about this adapatation and I really can't be bothered to list everything. What I will say though, is that I felt that they really didn't know what direction they wanted to take this story in, which ended up with the whole plot being very shallow. They decided not to rely on the original story, and took a more literal route with the garden being actually magic. Mary herself had no character development, there were hints of her bitterness, but she was all round made a very simple character with little personality. The script was appalling at some parts, especially at the end when Lord Craven says something along the lines of learning from children and how sorry he was for abandoning his son (for nonsense reasons in this adaption).
Also the garden, which was more like a forest for some reason, relied heavily on cgi and just didn't give me the chills that the garden in the 1993 version did.
All round weak movie and I'm really sad as this is my favourite story.
