I went into this book thinking it was a Memoir; it is not. The story is loosely based on the experiences of someone the author knows (or, kind of knows?)
The book does do a decent job of covering the various questions and situations Trans individuals, their parents, and their siblings face from their peers. However, with an older target audience, it still barely brushes these issues and situations at an elementary level. If you were to change a few pictures and remove a few cuss words, it would be a great book to read with young children to answer questions they may have about the Trans community.
Books like this are important. I would recommend it to parents who are looking for simple answers to the questions their young children may be asking. But I can't deny that it left me underwhelmed.
