I honestly don’t know where to even begin with this movie, so I’ll just get to the point and say that this was honestly not a good movie. The siblings don’t even bond that much in this movie and they don’t even really get to have a real meaningful talk, it’s either always waved away by some stupid joke or by them being edgy about their mothers death. I was so disappointed because they could have honestly had some good character development, but nope, they would always guilt trip each other or insult one another and other really bad things. Their mothers death could have honestly been more of a motive to bring them close and they could reconnect and bond again, but noooo, they are always arguing like me and my sister when we were like 7 years old, I’m this movie they never talk out their problems and always keep to themselves and having meaningful moments was key to them connecting, which unfortunately was not executed properly in this movie. Don’t get me wrong, the actors did amazing and they were just doing their job, what sucked was the story, not the actors themselves. Of course there were some jokes I would giggle a bit but like, that’s it, there’s not really anything that funny in this movie that would’ve made me burst with laughter. I was pretty much just staring into a screen with a deadpan expression. Another problem was how the mom was described in the movie, I expected a caring mother, since these siblings were grieving so much but nope, at one point Star describes her mother as a bipolar manic schizophrenic, which is not the most comforting description of a mother. And they really didn’t give us any background on their mother, and seeing Star flip through the TV channels in that one scene made me confused, did she miss her mother because she always hoped to get comfort? Did her mother care about her? Is she grieving or is she just heartbroken because she never got the comforting and caring mother she wanted? This movie left me with too many questions about what the hell their mother was like and what exactly was going on in Stars mind. You aren’t really able to properly connect with these characters and that can make any audience disappointed or upset. Conclusion? Don’t watch this movie, it’s a waste of time. TL;DR .Siblings don’t bond .Siblings argue,guilt trip each other, etc… .Siblings don’t properly communicate with each other .No proper connections to the mother .Audience can’t properly connect to characters Conclusion? WOW! Okay, I just finished watching this movie (I know, I’m like a year late but whatever) and this movie is just amazing, it’s an emotional rollercoaster and it just gets you thinking about life in general. This movie just hits hard, I’m just a teenager but I could relate to so many aspects about the movie. I honestly feel like this movie is more intended for teens and adults and not so much for kids because very young kids wouldn’t be able to relate to it and it wouldn’t have as much as an impact on them. (SPOILERS AHEAD) Another thing I liked was the overall storytelling and how the world in the afterlife works, it’s unique and creative! I also liked how the movie takes to time to introduce us to the main character, Joe. I feel like most movies rush character introductions and first impressions but in this movie Joe develops through the entirety of the movie, up to the end, which is honestly nice to see. I really enjoyed how Soul incorporated a bit of humor into it and continues to send the right message to the audience without the main focus of the movie being lost. Also the designs! Really unique! Specifically Terry’s design and the Counselor Jerry’s designs (if you don’t know what I’m talking about just look it up) I enjoyed how the designs show that Joe is in a completely different place than Earth. I’ve never seen a movie use such unique designs before so it’s wonderful to see it! But this movie also comes with its flaws, it’s biggest one being pacing/scene lengths. That hospital scene was just way too long for me and I was kinda just starting to lose focus until something interesting happened. It’s just that some scenes run for too long and it just feels awkwardly boring. Also pacing, I know we get to know Joe throughout the whole movie, but did he really have to die after the first five minutes? But nonetheless the positives of this movie outweigh the negatives, it’s easy to ignore but I just wanted to point those out since it lower interest in a movie (especially during an important scene). TL;DR Positive- .Emotional rollercoaster (which Pixar movie hasn’t been an emotional rollercoaster?) .Has messages that teens and adults can understand, not necessarily for kids .Good storytelling and world (the afterlife) .Doesn’t rush character introductions, characters develop throughout the movie .Has humor but holds its message .Cool character designs Negative- .At some points has weird pacing .Some scenes run for an awkwardly, long amount of time Overall, this movie is great and worth a watch, even if you’re an adult it’s still worth watching! (My mom watched it with me and she loved it!) I know it’s not for everyone but it’s honestly worth watching for anyone, I would recommend giving it a shot, especially if you liked Coco and other movies that talk about life and the meaning of it. I would personally give this movie a 9/10, I was honestly just shocked at the end because of how this movie gets you thinking about life, and what the true meaning is. P.S. the best character in this movie is the first Jerry, their voice is so calming, not sorry ❤️

First of all, WOAH, I recently watched this movie because it’s gotten a lot of popularity, and I don’t regret watching it, it’s one of the best movies that Disney has released in a while. The songs are amazing, each one has its own story and connects to the character, even before watching the movie, I listened to the songs and could guess what was going on. I also like how there is no typical “twist villain” in this movie, but you can tell Abuela is supposed to take the place of an antagonist, her intentions are good but her execution is bad. The representation is amazing! I like how they added many characters with different skin colors, it’s so refreshing to see, the same with the culture. The animation is spectacular, each movie is improving with the animation and that’s always nice to see, the designs are awesome too! I like how this movie portrays everything so well, it’s a movie that makes you feel so many emotions in one sitting, the only problem with this movie is that many of the side characters don’t get a lot of attention, my sister watched it a second time, and told me that Camilo had like 7 lines, which is depressing (Her fav character is Camilo btw lol) I just would’ve liked to see more of those characters, like Camilo, Luisa etc. Luisa mainly developed through the song, but even then, we really don’t get to see much of her growing as a character in the movie The same with Isabella, she develops through her song but then she’s just kinda there. And Camilo didn’t even get a song or any development whatsoever, which made me kinda sad because he had so much potential as a character, but oh well. Also, the middle of the movie was just kinda slow paced, there’s nothing boring or wrong but it just felt long to get through the middle, the beginning and end are amazing tho. TL;DR Pros .Good, catchy songs .No cliche villains .Good at portraying (I got a lot of emotions in this movie, you can laugh and cry to it) .Good representation Cons .Side characters don’t get a lot of development .Slow pacing in the middle of the movie (not boring, just slow) But overall, for me this movie is a solid 9/10 for me, it’s been one of the best movies that Disney has released in a hot minute and it’s definitely worth a watch. Also Bruno is the best character in this movie okay bye 👋😸
