I was prompted to see this due to the adverse publicity about people walking out in droves due to the violent nature of some of the scenes ,to see what all the fuss was about, but in fact I found it a riveting movie. Dark, ominous, atmospheric, quite disturbing, great soundtrack, the dilapidated surroundings adding to the general air of decay and menace. Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal in this movie with his portrayal of a disturbed person with a mountain of psychological baggage , his acting utterly convincing. Worth going to see for him alone. Thought he looked familiar, he played the psycho Roman emperor Commodus in Gladiator, another top notch depiction of a complete psycho. The film had nothing to do with Batman I’m glad to say, despite being set in Gotham City.
If you don’t mind a bit of fictional gratuitous violence it’s well worth going to see.
