Disappointing because none of the main characters were particularly appealing. The only real emotion the storyline elicited from me was anger towards the British Empire for their continuous abuse of indigenous people. I didn't find the noble qualities of a warrior queen I expected. There was no real climax so the story fell flat.

A light and familiar storyline only taking place in Georgia this time. A big city girl loses her job as a high end event planner (an entertaining and descriptive fiasco) and moves to her paternal roots in the South. Big city meets small town values and you can guess the rest. The only trouble is the main character is the least likeable person ever; condescending, judgmental and generally obnoxious. I did listen to this on audible rather than read it.

Cilka Klein is a woman I would like to be friends with. She is strong, resilient, vulnerable and tough. I listened to the book on audio and found it a little less compelling than the Tattooist. I believe because the actress sounded a little monotone at times and didn't differentiate as much with voices. The tasteful of post- war Russia was portrayed with clarity. The only plot twist that seemed a little forced was Cilka's propensity to meet the "right" people to rescue her-Forezt Gumpish.
