This wouldnt be a review but more of a rant for what makers of this movie had put me through last night. I had avoided watching Bollywood movies in theatre for the longest time because, most of the commercial successes have portrayed women in a derogatory manner. But that changed with Stree, which made me curious about the second movie by the team which was Made in China. Honestly, both the movies were a breath of fresh air that Bollywood desperately needed. Although, Made in China wasnt a commercial success, its still one of the movies that i like to revisit during bad days. And then Roohi happened.
Our plans to watch this movie had postponed from Sunday to Monday, even then my sister wasnt very keen. I almost forced her and a friend of ours to watch the movie with us and by the end of the movie I ended up apologising to both of them.
The movie was unrelatable from the beginning. I had high hopes, i wanted to laugh at the jokes but my conscience didn’t allow me. I have problem with the subject they tried to cover. I know there are more serious issues to be mad about but when i try to forget them and go to a theatre to watch a movie during pandemic, i expect. And i am not wrong to do that. How could anybody find bride abduction or kidnapping funny? The very attempt to make it a subject to laugh about is very offensive. And then, the makers dont even cover the concept of consent anywhere in the movie is what agitated me further.
Witnessing the forced comedy and people laughing at it was the true horror. Its like bollywood stepped back by about 2-3 decades. Creators should be careful about what they cover in the subject they are presenting, because then the people who dont like to think and just life be, consider movies like this as an excuse for their deranged behaviour.
