I so wanted to like this show but found it incredibly painful and almost gave it. It was too much of a melodrama but I could have tolerated that. The costuming was great (except for all the bare-headed women in public) and the actors were OK. I don't speak French so could not really tell. What I HATED AND WHAT SPOILED the series for me was the voice over. I usually do not watch anything with voice over but this one cured me forever. It wasn't the lip-synch but the DIALOGUE WAS SIMPLY HORRIBLE. The idioms were all late 20th and early 21st century and it literally spoiled the series for me. I endured it in spite of all the archetypal character but it was the WORST job of translation I've ever heard. Also the voices over actors were flat and stupid. I'm sure voice-over and translation is difficult but this was abysmal and ruined the series for me.
