This is an excellent account explorations in Lahaul-Spiti in 1950's by a high court when there were no roads leading to Lahaul and Spiti. Major part of the account deals with the Author crossing the now famous Hampta pass to reach Lahaul valley and continuing further to Spiti valley. The author through his account tries to give us a profound insight into the culture of Spiti valley. Spiti valley had no contact with the outside world for 8 months and could be reached after days of footslogging over precarious high altitude passes for the remaining 4.
