I believe that the series made a major error. The Crater episode was investigated twice: once by Court Marshall and the other time by a commission. The blame was placed on either Gen. A. Burnside or Gen. Meade, depending upon which version you prefer. However, nowhere was Grant mentioned as a commander, like it portrayed in the series.
