I encourage everyone that watches Matrix Resurrections to suspend their disbelief and know that this is not like the previous three movies in terms of plot, dialog, fight scenes and cinematography. I also suggest that you pay close attention to the finer points otherwise you will miss something important.
The cinematography is excellent. No more filters to distinguish the Matrix from the real world. Images and scenery are vivid and pleasant to the eye without distracting from the plot or dialog.
Now speaking of the plot and dialogue, this is where you need to pay attention. Some of the phrasing is specific; and if missed, could lead to a missed plot point which could then leave a viewer lost or confused. Those watching on HBOMax will be able to rewind; theater goers don't have this luxury.
The plot is pretty loose in some places and the writers could have filled in the voids with more content, visual and/or as dialog. This is the reason the review is only a 4 instead of a 5. As I viewer I don't want to take a leap between plot points especially with a movie as highly anticipated such as Resurrections. It leaves viewers wanting more detail...but perhaps that's intentional. Maybe there's another Matrix around the corner to close the gaps (just like the original trilogy).
Finally, remember that it is just a movie. Enjoy the break from reality.
