It started out ok, was somewhat interesting...but the backstory/flashback was flimsy and didn't make much sense. I was expecting an "explosive" ending based on how things were going, with the "heroes" holed up in a big house and bad guys surrounding them. BUT was sorely disappointed. Antonio Banderas' character (Caleb) is off'ed too early and too easily early in the fight. And based on what they reveal about him, you'ld think he'll have all kinds of tricks and booby traps in his house...but alas NOPE. I had hope things might get better after Caleb's teen daughter shows Delilah (Jaime King's character) her dad's secret collection of military weapons. But alas, no booby traps, no explosions, just an overly ridiculous 2 vs 15-20 guys firefight, some lame grenades that seemed more like toys...and yeah that was it. They somehow win the fight vs the mini army of bad guys. And that was it. Real lame ending.

The show has definitely gotten better. Just recently finished Season 3 and starting Season 4. I'm really enjoying the story arc of Discovery time-travelling 900 years into their future. Very interesting perspective, with a very different kind of Federation and Starfleet. But I still really think the "spore drive" is a joke. It's more fantasy than sci-fi. They really need to drop this spore drive junk. Also don't like the new character, Adira. She's like a Wesley Crusher--but worse, and far more annoying. Good thing we can easily skip stuff now with streaming as opposed the days of TNG when I mostly had no choice but to watch the dumb Wesley Crusher scenes. Love the upgraded ship though. I like that they changed Captain Burnam's hairstyle and gave her a new "perspective" on things. However, if you want a show that is closer in style and vision to TOS or TNG...try watching The Orville! UPDATE: 08-08-2022: Just finished season 4 and the last 2 episodes definitely makes up for all the shortcomings that came before. Things are looking up: they shipped that annoying Gray character off to Trill. Adira is less annoying without Gray. The spore drive went kaput! Hope it never gets fixed! lol And finally....I LOVE NON-HUMANOID ALIENS! Far too many aliens on Star Trek or other sci-fi shows are Humanoid or humanoid-like. Yes, I know it's partly a practical & budget matter, and to make it easier to connect with audiences, but sometimes aliens should just be...you know...ALIENS. As in completely different! The gas giant dwellers made for awesome Aliens! Their language was completely different and cannot be translated by the Universal translator (fantastic!), their biology, etc was so so very ALIEN as well! This is what aliens should be! UPDATE MAY 2024: Love the Season 5 connection to TNG (The Progenitors). Fantastic treasure hunt. But alas they also fall victim to a typical TV tactic of making something simple over complicated. There was no reason at all to handle L'ak & Moll with kid gloves. Or one hand tied behind your back. Moll wasn't even restrained in sickbay...even after her escaoe attempt! And if you really don't want something potentially very powerful and dangerous to fall into the wrong hands...you destroy it or destroy the clues that lead to it! UPDATE JUNE 2024: SOOOOOOO frustrated with Burnam's kid glove treatment of a clearly insane and dangerous person (Moll)! 95% of the problems this season is coz the writers have gone lazy and too woke and they have Burnam being oh so nice to Moll...no restraints on the ship, gives her a dermal regenerator when she was bleeding (with Moll having a weapon out already), telling her the secret phrase to unlock the final puzzle of the Progenitor's tech...ridiculous!!!! I have had to pause the final episode several times just to take a break from the ridiculousness of it all!!!! They had a GREAT idea for this season, but they MESSED UP the execution SOOOOO BAD!!!! Too woke, too soft on the villains, trying to save the one/few at the risk of the many, total stupidity sometimes! I am glad it's done! You want REAL STAR TREK, watch Strange New Worlds -- now that is a MODERNIZED version of Star Trek DONE RIGHT!!!

This is definitely a very unique show with a very different view on "superheroes". Love the David v Goliath setup of the ragtag team of "The Boys" vs the big evil behemoth that is Vought and its "superheroes" which are really just supervillains. Wolves in sheep's clothing most of them! Can't wait to see Homelander and/or Stan Edgar suffer a horrible demise. I hope it will be more satisfying than King Jeoffrey's demise in Game of Thrones! There are somethings I am not fond of in this show though....they go over the top with gore sometimes...too much. And they do explicit scenes for shock value...don't really add to the story at all! I mean who wants to see a shrinking woman hug a giant wiener??! Eww!!! Good thing it's easy to skip those stupid scenes!!!

This movie is poetry in motion. It's over the top, it's bold, it's different, it's crazy...I love it! Unfortunately, it seems you either love it or hate it. It's today's movie audiences lack of desire to watch something brand new and different. I want to give credit to Apple for daring to make something different, risky even. Maybe they will lose money at the box office but maybe gain some in streaming. This is why practically every other film today is a reboot, sequel or prequel....seems audiences don't want to give something new a chance. This is a very entertaining film, my only disappointment is that Henry Cavill is only on screen for like 10 mins total! But love the cat! He's the real star here lol

Great movie based on historical events but with much artistic license. Thanks to this movie though, I learned about Hypatia. A Greek female philosopher/mathematician during the 4th & 5th centuries in Alexandria. And about another Greek philosopher (Aristarchus from 3rd century BC) who figured out that the earth moved around the sun and rotated on its axis. Something the Europeans won't figure out until Copernucys in the 1400's. So a bit of interesting stuff and educational. One main inaccuracy of the movie is the destruction of the library of Alexandria by Christians. The library was long gone by the time Hypatia was born. And it was Julius Caesar that accidentally destroyed part of it, then later it was completely destroyed by a faction of the Roman empire (the Palmyrenes). So there seems to be some Christian bashing in the movie. Yes there were some bloody times during the rise of Christianity in the Roman empire, but they definitely did NOT destroy the famous library of Alexandria.

It's got a very shallow premise. Basically main character is an ex assassin trying to live a normal life who's past caught up with him. Yeah, not very original. But the way his past caught up with him is soooo lame. He apparently avoids photos the whole time he's living as a "civilian" but oh one day his daughter snaps one discreetly and posts on social media. And that's how his enemies find him. Not believable because there are soooo many cameras these days that would have already captured his image long before the fateful snap from his kid. I mean there's security cameras everywhere, traffic cameras, cellphones with cameras on every town and city. And this was the only time a photo of him was taken his entire "civilian" life?

Watching this in Disney+ now...I can see why it flopped. It's has a slow start, the first 25 min is a boring montage of Buzz basically being a test pilot. He is nothing like the space ranger kids (and grownup 90s kids) have grown to love and would expect. Also, why change the voice actor to begin with? Tim Allen was a perfect Buzz. Part of Buzz's appeal was his comical overconfidence and arrogance. Also you would expect a Buzz Lightyear movie to do you know...mostly Space ranger stuff. Instead you spend a good chunk of time watching him go on one test flight after another, aging minutes while those on the ground got old. Adding an LGBTQ angle did not help. It was a small part of the movie, but got overblown in the media. The natural audience for a Buzz Lightyear film should be younger kids...or families with younger kids. But it seems like they made a movie more suited to teens or young adults. It's not a bad movie, it's interesting enough on its own. But it's a completely different style from the Toy Story franchise and I think that ruined it for many audiences. The intro claims that this is the movie that inspired Andy's Buzz Lightyear toy, and that it was Andy's FAVORITE movie. Andy was SIX YEARS OLD when he got the Buzz toy. Would a six year old enjoy this movie??? The answer to this question is why the movie was a box office failure. People had different expectations that the movie failed to deliver. If they had made this a more independent movie, and not try to tie it to Toy Story and marketed it differently and to teens or young adults...it might have grossed better. The one really, really good idea in this movie is Sox the robot cat. He is the real star here lol
