One of the worst best picture winners of all time, well at least the worst one I’ve ever seen. This film has some really talented actors and most of them are all wasted by the muddled and nonsensical writing. The only performances that I thought were not bad were Matt Dillon, Michael Pena and Terence Howard who are the only ones who give it their best shot. Everyone else in the film give terrible performances or at least are non existent to the plot. The only other merit I can give is some of the cinematography, but the film is mostly shot badly with some imagery that goes absolutely no where and scenes that make absolutely no sense. Some of these scenes are just down right unintentionally hilarious, like some of these car chases and explosions and moments that try to be emotional, but end up being insufferably dumb. The subject of racism has been done to death, but that is not the real problem since there are so many other films out there that have dived into the subject and did it brilliantly. This film goes way too melodramatic, sentimental and sappy and most of the characters are either unlikable or likabke, but unbelievably stupid. I don’t know how this film won best picture over Brokeback Mountain and a few other films. I will give this film a 2 out of 5 stars.
