Okay.
Riverdale was a good show. First season was amazing. Second season, not too bad. But third season...wait what? I thought Riverdale was supposed to be realistic! Well, granted, there are around 5 people getting murdered per episode or whatever and the town is so miserable that I just wonder why people even live in it anymore, but still. It's supposed to have this aspect of realism+mystery to it.
Then the third season came along. And it flipped everything on its head. Nothing in the second season built up to this. No Gargoyle king, no fizzle rocks, nothing. It just ended how like every young adult TV show ends: Drama and tension and Archie getting arrested. I thought that season 3 would sort of be primarily focused on Archies time in jail or something and the consequences everybody would face and how Hiram Lodge now has basic control over the town. And we got that. But not in the way we expected. "Oh yeah, now the show is Supernatural and has this crazy D&D ripoff and blue lips and ascension nights and the parents were in this basically breakfast club and WHAT IS HAPPENING?"
Nothing makes sense. One moment we're led to believe the gargoyle king is like, Hiram Lodge. But nope, it's *** ***! Like, what?! Okay, okay, I know that it's supposed to be a twist, but really? Like, can anybody ever stay dead now? Like, actually die? Jughead's "death" was actually surprising and everyone was like, "HOLYCRAPJUGHEADSDEADHELPME" Even the next episode "teased" his death. But turns out, he's alive! Wait, What? Then we gave it a reluctant pass because of course he wont die, he's the bloody narrator! Then when Archie faced near death to A FRICKIN BEAR, nobody batted an eye. He's a main character. Of course he's not dead. And when some minor characters die, nobody bats an eye. *Sigh*
What I'm saying is is that Riverdale has lost that sense of mystery to it that made it so interesting in the first place, cramming too many plot twists, new or old characters that just disappear in the blink of an eye without much extra "oomph" to the story (Y'know, Jughead's family and Peabody) and an uncohesive story that barely, BARELY works. I just watch it just because I have nothing better to do and I just want to see what's up in this episode that goes batcrap crazy. Oh well, riverdale. We'll just have to see.
