The Boy Who Learned to Fly
Short Film Review
By Jack Shi
The short film, The Boy Who Learned to Fly, directed by Limbert Fabian, is an animated biography of the fastest sprinter in the world, Bolt. It's a biography that had a very strong goal, to inform people that only care about winning and people that don't persevere and always act cowardly.
The story begins in Bolt's hometown, Jamaica. Bolt is going to be late for school as he runs like the wind. As the bell rang, he sits down on his seat just in time. After hours of boredom learning, it was lunchtime. As he bolts outside, it was then he realizes that he forgot to take his lunch. At that moment, his teacher sees him hungry and walks towards him. If he could beat the man, he could eat his lunch. As he runs and runs, the man was quicker than ever. The teacher opens the lunch box to show Bolt the amazing foods in the lunch box. Bolt looks and smiles as he runs faster and faster.
He runs past the man and wins the race. Bolt cheers and poses as the teacher gives him the lunch box. " You know you're good, but if you want to be great, you got to have to take this seriously." The teacher tells him. Bolt thinks to himself and starts training. As he wins a few competitions, he starts to be caring for the winning. The climax is when her mother goes into the room and looks at him. "Usain, don't care about winning, care about the big crowd out there." Her mother looks at him as she slowly adjusts his shoes. Bolt smiles. "Remember, keep it light." Her mother tells him. Bolt gleams with brightness as he goes on to the sprinting field. Bolt looks around at the crowd as he poses his pose. As the race begins, Bolt smiles at the camera. Bolt runs as fast as he can. Even though he is very exhausted, he smiles very brightly.
The film deserves 4/5 stars. It has a powerful and important message. The director made the Main Character (Bolt) faces an internal climax. At that time, the character's mother solves the internal climax. The target audience is people who didn’t persevere and only think about winning. The target audience should see this film. This short film is a very convincing film.
