It's a terrible movie. The themes are great... for a 3rd grader (but definitely not appropriate for that age). The ultimate theme is "confused teenager needs to overcome fear." It would've been much better even without any theme at all, and if the writers had just left it as a action/fantasy movie. The theme doesn't flow well with the movie, it's awkwardly jabbed in at the beginning and end in a poor attempt to tie the movie together. Both the lesbian relationship and the relationship between the stereotypical cold-hearted closed off girl and the rich f boy are forced and contribute nothing to the plot. There is no character development whatsoever, despite the theme. The "plot twist" is not at all that. And the characters supposedly "come together as a team" at the end, but they never bonded or even fought the ultimate end fight together, they just took turns, there was no collaboration or teamwork. It's just painful to watch.
