Acting of the lead actress is highly commendable. However, the movie is slow. I guess, it was supposed to be slow to highlight the subtle struggles of being a woman during that time. And the struggle that take a heavy toll on the mental and physical health of individuals with limited to no freedom. And the extent someone can go to just to be killed. There could have been more trembling moments for the audience to appreciate. The director definitely missed out on many bird's eye view shots. The atmosphere of the movie was desperately asking for it.

The ending of the movie is expected as soon as you know Skye is to perform on a public stage. The creature seen during the final hours is extremely cartoonist — no thrill or even a jumpscare, not even a single haww. The story is bland, revolves around one character — the horrific past of whose is brought again and again in the current scenario just like any other old horror movie. The only thing fresh is the face of the main character. The story gives you a tiny shock when it is revealed that Skye was never in control of herself. She went onto the stage wearing the same dress she declined to wear very early in the story. Another tiny shock is when that sickly-in-love-with-Skye fan of hers turned out to be a manipulating trick of the smiley-evil even though he wasn't smiling weirdly at Skye. This seems like a cheap trick used by the writer of the story to add a bit of suspense into Smile 2. So the two tiny shocks get 2 stars. And .5 for the must-have fine acting skills of the main character.
