Never watched because the marketing focused on the goofy tryout aspects of it. It seemed really cheesy and a movie only for small children. Had no idea the level of talent involved and the well-written well executed story on top of the exceptional performances. Actually excited to see the second one now.

This is, like most of the remakes, a massive disappointment with the one exception being the Jungle Book. Most of the five star reviews look like they were paid for and written by a PR team. Where the hell is the music and the charm of the original?? It's never funny, never inspiring, never engaging. The acting is awful, poor character development and absurd magic "chi" (the force I guess) story is ridiculously dull. It's like watching a $200 million student project. Almost fell asleep several times. The action is kinda cool, as it can be for a PG13 and the sets are beautiful. So it saves a star.

Very much on the nose. We figured out the "twist" halfway through. Meandering plot and as much as I like all of the actors it was a rough script, somewhat unlikable characters, much better suited for a Lifetime special.
