The concept of the show is good. Good cinematography, good production, costumes and interesting plot idea but all that is crippled by the lazy writing, cliché dialogue and godawful main protagonist. Ava is a damn travesty, simply awful. Main characters in these tired “chosen one” type shows are often annoying and frustratingly obtuse, sometimes unnecessarily stubborn but usually have some redeeming qualities which make watching a show that is essentially centred around them, bearable but Ava, she is just the worst. Ava is the worst protagonist in the history of faux- rebellious teenage protagonists. She’s horrible. She’s terribly selfish, narcissistic, stubborn, ungrateful, rude, flippant, impetuous, reactive, mercurial, naive and downright annoying. I was really hoping that the show wouldn’t be cliché and that she would die in the first 5 episodes but no... they had to keep it going. I would have rated this show 5 stars if not for the bane of a protagonist that is Ava and the poor dialogue. Also this whole “chosen one” thing makes no sense and is also overdone and tired. The theme of the show gets lost after the 4th episode and the whole thing just seems messy but it’s the kind of show like Riverdale, which, despite the ridiculousness of it all, makes you want to see what new heights of ridiculousness the writers will pull out next. So despite the many vices the show has, if, not for anything, entertainment purposes strictly, I wouldn’t recommend it
