I thought this movie was actually better than the original. Of course there are some things you just can’t top such as Robin William’s Genie, but I like the fact that Will Smith’s genie feels different. The last 20 minutes felt a little slow, but I really liked the new song were Jasmine does not “stay silent.” And just in general, the story feels a little more cleared up than the original. I also like the fact that no Arabs are stereotyped in this film, unlike the original. My only complaint is I wish Aladdin said: “Do you trust me?” in the opening scene when he first meets Jasmine. Instead, he just said: “Trust me.” That is my only real complaint. Asides from that, I loved this movie more than the original! This and the Jungle Book (2016) are my two favorite Disney remakes so far. And don’t even get me started about the music, which just sounded amazing!! I think if parents are going to introduce Aladdin to their kids, they should watch this version as they growing up, not the original.
