Early series shows dismal lighting and smoky interiors which is not at all realistic. Reminiscent of medieval times not 1950s! People smoked but housewives also opened windows every morning to 'air' rooms and 100W ceiling lights were used more than dim side lamps. Windows were larger than today particularly in Georgian buildings.
