Acting was absolutely atrocious and so was the dialogue. The plot had several holes and the movie somehow didn’t feel dramatic enough overall. It’s pretty obvious what was going to happen— we know from the start that Lizzie is Charlotte’s rival, so why would Charlotte want to befriend her and then sleep with her? If I were Lizzie, I would be very confused as to why a rival would want to have relations with me and that would make me very skeptical. The movie felt the need to spoon-feed its “twist” after we could already infer what was happening. Charlotte gives Lizzie a pill. Lizzie gets sick immediately after. Obviously, Charlotte was the cause of her hallucinations and severe illness. Lizzie’s revenge is very underplayed and could’ve been a lot more captivating; Charlotte definitely didn’t get what she deserved. The other characters and over-world is very boring; you don’t really care about the characters or what happens to them because they have no personality whatsoever. The only cool part was during the bus ride in the middle of nowhere, where Lizzie gets extremely sick and begins to hallucinate. The entire runtime after that was truly awful and completely useless. Wouldn’t it have made more sense for Charlotte to have given her the pill wayyyyy before, so it wouldn’t have been so obvious as to why Lizzie was sick? Or maybe they just shouldn’t shown that scene— it would’ve fit the eccentric “we’re so confusing” vibe the entire film was going for.
Overall, film is boring, flat, and a lot less gruesome than people are saying.
