I am impressed. I am impressed that in just 30 minutes, a film that is not even sourced from my own language can make me feel empathy for a piece of dog poop. Seriously. I got to know a character that has so many levels of meta, who gets to meet characters with very real parallels to the real world, meets his maker, and even discovers his own meaning of life. And all of this is done... in a kids movie. Yes, it's ridiculous to make a pile of dog poop sentient. Yes, the characters might be "soil". And "leaf". BUT... this movie gave me more emotions than a lot of recent big-budget films today. And it's from 2004. Well done. Here is my 5 stars.

While SG-1 and Atlantis took the franchise on a bit of a more light-hearted tone, Universe took a darker tone. What if... everything wasn't guaranteed to be alright? What if the cast was not mostly safe in some underground military base, or in an ancient city? What if... they were on a derelict ship, where everything is improvised, every crisis is felt? The emotional pressure is great, the fighting scenes are great, story-telling is amazing. It ties itself to the heart of what Stargate actually is, while also darkening the tone into something a lot more serious. I wish this show got a season 3!
