While SG-1 and Atlantis took the franchise on a bit of a more light-hearted tone, Universe took a darker tone.
What if... everything wasn't guaranteed to be alright? What if the cast was not mostly safe in some underground military base, or in an ancient city? What if... they were on a derelict ship, where everything is improvised, every crisis is felt?
The emotional pressure is great, the fighting scenes are great, story-telling is amazing. It ties itself to the heart of what Stargate actually is, while also darkening the tone into something a lot more serious. I wish this show got a season 3!
