There have naturally been a lot of comparisons to the earlier film version of “One Day” with much dismissal of Anne Hathaway’s attempt at a Yorkshire accent. In fact the reviews seem to concentrate on her accent rather than the beautiful and luminous performance that she gives. The role requires that Emily light up the screen which Anne Hathaway does. Her TV successor does not . She is a good nuts and bolts actress but does not deliver the romance and pain required in the part. Hathaway does. In spades

I haven’t seen this film since it was released, THIRTY SEVEN YEARS AGO! I find that so difficult to write. I watched it in or towards the end of the Trump horrors when I couldn’t stand one more night of political madness. What a relief to see a film so grand and beautiful. The acting from the astronauts is superb and Sam Shepard’s male beauty is staggering. Some of the politicians and administrators are a touch cartoonish but it’s an extraordinary tale of American exceptionalism in contrast to the greed and self promotion of today. A total joy to watch again.

Totally unlikely. Very well acted especially the delicious Kristin Scott Thomas who is wasted in this well shot but pretty pointless film. The Villains are from a cartoon and you never really know what happened to his wife and why.

Great scenery! Terrible acting and unconvincing plot.

I watched this series because it was written by William Boyd, a writer whom I much admire. I was never sure if this was a straightforward espionage thriller or a James Bond spoof, as in Austin Powers or “In like Flynn” with the late James Coburn. In any case I stopped after Episode 1, my suspension of disbelief sorely tried.
