I loved this book very much. The writing was honest and true to life today for African Americans. Many comparisons can be made with things in the headlines today. Though Shayla's big sister protests with Black Lives Matters Movement. Shayla is more naive to racism and the dehumanization of Blacks. She must first deal with her own racist attitudes, and why she has no black friends. The book is a great book for kids my age. This is definitely in my top five for sure.
