This really should be on the English Lit. syllabus in every school! It effectively removes the terror associated with the Bard's stellar reputation, whilst also grounding the plays in relatable, amusing ways. I do think Ben Elton has outdone himself with this show, and the cast is simply brilliant (David Mitchell's palpable sense of indignant fury over "the journey on public transport from London to Stratford" is a stroke of comic genius! So engaged has this series made me for Shakespeare, that I am currently studying his entire canon - sixteen plays down! twenty-one left to relish (and the Sonnets, obviously!)
