DEVS brings us a plausible though futuristic world which leaves us feeling uneasy about the potential of tech billionaires and their stratospheric wealth. A gripping journey towards the truth by the determined Lily, excellently portrayed by Sonoya Mizuno, brings us to what I found was a slightly philosophically confusing ending, though that did not detract from a most entertaining story. Other notable performances come from Zach Grenier as the monstrously menacing and cold-blooded security guard, Kenton, and Nick Offerman as the chillingly benign tech messiah, Forest. In the end this is a love story leavened with crime and science fiction, and none the worse for it. Mention should also be made of some beautiful special effects environments, which lend a sense of omnipotence to the nerve centre of the DEVS computing facility.
