Chassummer Sonatina

I found it compulsive viewing, all four series, watched in a very short time. It followed an average family and how their lives integrated with one another and developed into the extended family and beyond. It contained a whole array of different scenarios reflecting human weaknesses and strengths which are evident within all families and certainly reflects on how life is so short, to live life to the full and never dwell on the past. This series made a welcome change from what has become the norm - it's actually free from scenes of explicit sex and violence. The storylines are real, touching, and reflect a certain normality that is evident within most families. The characters were excellently cast, and the actors were talented, each and everyone of them. A quality family viewing series and deserving of the five stars.

Wasn't sure after forcing myself to view Series 1 due to the fact that I thought the violence was too drawn out and unnecessarily explicit. Though the storyline was second to none. I was though hooked and eventually viewed Series 2-5 intending to hit the fast forward button often, however, the Director/Producer toned down the blood and glory on the following Series which reflected more of a balance - though it does still have it's moments which reflects the 1800s. It brought to me a new interest and awareness and respect of the history of Scotland in the 1800s of which I knew very little. This Series is at the top of my list and should have won more Awards than it did. The cast were phenomenal - every one of them. The costumes were stupendous. As for Sam Haughan - what an incredible actor and man - Wow!
