The world of Montalbano will draw you in, the nearest you will get to experiencing a part of Sicily without going. The crimes are dark but Montalbano and his faithful crew are very watchable and well drawn characters. There is much gentle humour as well (even more evident in the books) and you will want to go to the area it was filmed after you become immersed in the food, the streets, the language... If you like detective programmes you must give them a try.
