i have always loved this movie - such a fantastic cast and wonderful plot, full of so many different twists and turns, including WWII and all the sadness it involved, in a small new england town losing so many of their young men. and i also loved the TV series too ! but this movie started the whole thing for me - my love for the plot made me want to watch the TV series. and having mia farrow and ryan o'neal in it certainly helped a lot too of course. lana turner was fantastic, as she always was, of course. the small town atmosphere, all the wonderful cars and fashions, are always a treat for me to see. russ tamblyn, hope lange, and especially david nelson ( ozzie and harriet !!) are so young, handsome, talented, and bursting with youth and hopefulness, their light just burst off them from the screen. i had the great and special honor of meeting david nelson once and he was indeed the very nice and sweet man he seemed to be in movies and TV. i do highly recommend this movie to ADULTS -- not children.

FABULOUS movie ! so unique to see fred and barbara play such evil characters, epecially fred, who usually played much nicer people - . and barbara's step daughter was so beautiful and endearing. edward g robinson - ALWAYS COMPELLING and so much in this movie considering the small role he had compared to fred and barbara. i grew up watching these noirs of the 40's and love them so much. i cannot recommend this movie highly enough - it is important for one and all to watch. it has a solid moral to the story, a fitting end, and no - not a boring one at all. i always had a huge crush on fred - he was so handsome and talented and what a voice !!!

although difficult to handle at times due to the abuse of children, it is worth watching when getting to the satisfying end. dahl is not everyone's cup o'tea, and oddly enough i do not want my grand daughters to see this movie - -

watching while i am going thru my 2nd extremely painful neuropathy attack - is very distracting. terry dubrow waxing paul nassif - just like from 40 year old virgin so he can examine him, made me laugh and i really needed to laugh, even tho it was due to his skin cancer history. i had stage 4 cancer and my neuropathy is from all my 4 courses of chemo. this pain is torture - absolute torture and i wish there was a cure but there in none. distractions, as much exercise as possible, and carefully pain specialist aided meds help somewhat but sleep deprivation is pushing me.....to the edge. botched helps a little and this waxing scene really made me laugh -- so, thank you ever so much you two -- and i worked at the pebble beach golf shop from 95 - 2000 and after 5 years of those concors d'elegances and all those RED ferraris, it was nice to see a more lovely WHITE one, paul. those red ones are so boring and all look the same - the white one is so much nicer --
