This eerily prescient British sci-fi film showed how the next world war would be the beginning of radical changes for humanity. Amazingly, the real World War II would begin just three years after its release. Its epic story arc is designed to persuade its audience of the futility of war and nationalism and the superior quality of life derived from a global order based on science and innovation. (Elon Musk must have seen this old movie as a kid.) Many of HG Wells' suppositions have proven to be too idealistic and naive. But, some of his [1936] details were prophetic: World War II; rockets to the moon; communication devices on our wrists; etc. For me, this movie is a must-see sci-fi classic.
