Well worth the money. For me the portrayal of Macbeth as as a warrior with an ironic sense of humor may come closer to capturing the real Macbeth of 1040 than Shakespeare’s politically correct version. Scholars believe the real Macbeth (who actually killed Duncan on the field of battle and seventeen years later was killed by the scoundrel Malcolm) was for the 11th century a reasonably good and effective king.
With real history in mind, I think Mr. Washington did an admirable job of saying Shakespeare’s words with an interpretation that gives Macbeth a sense of who he may have been. Perhaps best said by one of the murders. A man “so weary of disasters, tugged with fortune, that I would set my life on any chance to mend it or be rid on’t.”
Oh well, what do I know?
