Definitely my new favourite Disney movie. Lin-Manuel did an AMAZING job with the song writing and sounds. After reading through some of the 1 star reviews, I can say that the complaints people have made have been extremely superficial. For one, many people are saying that a child wouldn’t understand the storyline or that they themselves don’t understand it. To that I say; children are not watching the movie for the plot I assure you, and if you yourself do not understand the story, then that says a lot about your emotional intelligence. It’s truly a beautiful story that captures the importance of understanding that you as a person, aside for your talents, job, etc, are special. There is no true vilain in the story which makes for a refreshing POV. Although Abuela could be seen as a vilain, the story reflects how her own trauma has caused her to apply unnecessary and cruel expectations and pressure on her family. There is not a dull moment in the movie. Each scene is filled with either a beautiful and meaningful song, or important dialogue with a couple cute jokes thrown in there. Overall a soul touching, tear jerking movie with an important meaning behind it. Naturally, great for kids too as the songs are easy to sing, beautiful, and so catchy and the characters, who are extremely well written, are so easy to fall in love with. 10/10 movie. (I had the write this review because the 1 star review are truly aggravating. Im convinced only not-smart people didn’t like this movie)
