First I absolutely love Paris! J’aime Paris et Paris m’aime! I love Paris and Paris loves me.
Malheuresment…I am not wealthy.
This movie made me want to go back and read more Hemingway, TS Elliot, F. Scott Fitzgerald…but I’ve always loved the impressionist painters Monet, Matisse, and even Picasso. I also sat where the “family” is in the underground Monet museum…four walls covered by murals of Monet’s Water Lilies…only lit by ambient daylight from upper windows. I sat quietly for hours. Serene, peaceful.
Many Americans don’t do well in Paris. They don’t understand sitting quietly in an outdoor cafe just sitting while sipping a hot chocolate or espresso. I could sit all day and wouldn’t be badgered by waiters insisting that I order something else. I would watch the impeccably dressed Parisiens walk by. Les grand Magasins (department stores) are filled with acres of beautiful clothes, shoes, accessories. The ONLY ppl dressed in low hanging jeans, obscenely worded sloppy t-shirts and baseball caps were Americans. None knew a word of French and yelled about differences in culture. “Restaurants don’t open at 6pm!” The French eat at 9pm or later. I would suggest they eat at a McDonald’s and give them directions.
So I return to this movie just for the streets, bridges, and Seine River.
Marvelous! 5 star rating of fantasy and reality.
