I really enjoyed this series. It's great for casual history fans like myself, BUT you have to make it past the first episode or two. Susanna Herbert is very attractive but the first few episodes' sex scenes are way over the top, distracting and an obvious pander to younger male viewers (I'm sick of Hollywood's theory that every series must start out as soft-core porn for people to watch it). Unfortunate since this certainly makes it not appropriate for younger children in an otherwise digestible format. The remaining episodes of the series are very good. Very suspenseful and very emotional and fairly accurate from what I understand.
The oversight with Lenin's Mausoleum is cringe-worthy. Nicholas II did actually have a dragon tattoo though, so that was not a mistake. The CGI is not amazing, but whatever. The actors don't have Russian accents for the most part, but the Czarina wasn't a native Russian speaker anyway and the Czar and Czarina supposedly wrote and spoke English with each other anyway.
I personally am a fan of the docudrama miniseries format. It's a good compromise between an hour long documentary and a full blown multi-season drama like the Tudors (which is also very good), but for some people that's not their thing.
